Publishing Standards

The same commitments apply to everything published under the Scyentist name, in journals and in proceedings alike.

Independent Review

Research articles are assessed by at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise and no conflict of interest, with the identities of authors and reviewers concealed from each other. Conference papers are reviewed by the conference's own programme committee, and we check that the review was carried out and documented.

Open Access

Everything we publish is free to read, download and share under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence. Authors retain copyright and may deposit their work in any repository, immediately and without embargo. There are no charges for readers.

A Permanent Record

Journal articles are assigned a Crossref DOI and proceedings volumes an ISBN. Both are deposited in a long-term digital archive, so the published record remains accessible and citable independently of our websites.

Publication Ethics

We follow the Core Practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Our policies on authorship, use of AI, plagiarism, corrections and retractions, misconduct and appeals are published in full by each journal, and apply equally to proceedings.

Editorial Independence

Editorial decisions are made on scientific merit alone. Payment of a publication charge has no bearing on whether work is accepted, and waiver requests are decided separately from the editorial decision.

Fair and Transparent Charges

Article publication charges are published on each journal's own website, and charges for conference proceedings are quoted to the organisers before any agreement is made. Charges are banded by the World Bank income classification of the author's country, so that the cost of publishing reflects where the work was done. No charge is ever made for work that is not accepted.
