Journal Partner Programme
A new journal takes years to become established. The Journal Partner Programme invites researchers to help build one from the start — shaping its scope, bringing the work of their community to it, and becoming the founding partner for the journal.
The Idea
Every journal begins with the same difficulty: researchers are reluctant to submit good work to a journal that is not yet indexed, and a journal cannot be indexed until it has published good work. A Journal Partner helps a Scyentist journal through those first years.
The partner shapes the scope of the journal in their own field, and brings papers to it — from their own research network, from their laboratory, and from conferences and symposia they organise. Scyentist appoints the editors and handles everything else: peer review, production, DOIs, archiving, policies and the applications for indexing.
What Each Side Does
| The Journal Partner | Proposes and shapes the journal's scope, and builds its early publication record by bringing quality papers from their research community. |
|---|---|
| Scyentist | Owns the journal and its ISSN, appoints the editorial board, runs peer review and all editorial decisions, and provides the website, submission system, production, DOIs, archiving and indexing applications. |
Proposals from individual researchers and from research communities are both welcome. Scyentist publishes and owns the title, with an editorial board drawn from the community the journal serves.
What a Journal Partner Receives
- A journal in their field, shaped around the area they know best.
- Recognition as the journal's Founding Partner, named on this website for as long as the partnership continues.
Editorial Independence
The role is one of scope and outreach, never of editorial authority. This separation is absolute, and it protects the authors, the partner and the journal alike.
- Journal Partners hold no editorial position and are not members of the editorial board.
- They take no part in decisions on any manuscript, and have no access to manuscripts under review or to reviewer reports.
- They cannot promise, imply or suggest that a manuscript will be accepted.
- Papers from the partner's own laboratory or institution are handled by an editor with no connection to them.
- Every manuscript, however it reaches us, goes through the same double-blind review.
Who We Are Looking For
- Established researchers with an active network and a strong publication record in their field.
- Research groups and laboratories producing work steadily in a defined area.
- Conference and symposium organisers with a returning community.
